Sam Boone enlisted in the Army in May of 1972 as an Radio Operator.  He graduated from Scarritt College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and later earned a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School and a Master of Education from Vanderbilt University. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Seoul Christian University, Seoul, Korea.

After graduation from the Army's Officer Candidate School, he served as an Army Infantry Officer and helicopter pilot, with combat experience in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He served as the Command Chaplain, United Nations Command, U.S. Forces Korea, and 8th U.S. Army (2003 - 2008).  His last assignment was Commandant at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School.

He served the Columbia Chapter as President and now serves as the Chapter Chaplain.  He is also Chaplain for the South Carolina MOAA Council.  Until recently he was a member of the MOAA Board of Directors and served as the MOAA National Chaplain.  

He is married to the former Teresa Allen of Macon, Georgia.  They will celebrate their 49th Anniversary in July.
